Memorial Day may mean three-day weekends and the start of summer to some but, at it's heart, the holiday is in remembrance of the fallen men and women who have served the United States in its military.
People across the country paid tribute on Monday to U.S. soldiers by visiting graves, war memorials and holding patriotic parades.
