9 Ways To Sweat Like a Geek

Fitness trends come in and out of fashion, but your instinct to avoid them is forever.

You might view exercise as a waste of time you that could be spending online, doing something both more enjoyable and less painful. But a little movement couldn't hurt, especially when the moves take into consideration your special set of skills.

Grab your sweatband and prepare to perspirate, geek style.

1. Do the "laptop charger dash" to warm up.

Put your charger as far away from your laptop as possible. Don't go to get it until your computer is about to power down. You'll discover speed you never knew you had.

2. Follow a fitness video just for nerds for a well rounded workout.

Author and vlogger John Green proves it burns just as many calories to dodge a punch as it does to throw one.

3. Turn your favorite geeky TV drinking game into a circuit training session.

Simply replace "take a shot" with "do 20 jumping jacks." Just make sure to start slow — 10 push-ups every time someone got beheaded on Game of Thrones would be more intense then P90X.

4. For the grammar geek, do 20 crunches every time you spot an error in the article you're reading.

Just don't include the comments. You'll hurt yourself.

5. Do the "fan girl/fan boy" to increase endurance.

It's kind of like doing jazz hands with your whole upper body. Just flail until you feel tired.

6. Try some Star Wars yoga to improve your flexiblity.

Because all those times you've lost your balance during a tree pose what you were really missing was the force.

7. Get your heart rate up with the "ball of outrage."

Close your eyes. Pretend they've just killed off your favorite character, cancelled your favorite show, or cast an actor who has no business being your favorite superhero. Release your anger through movement and feel the burn.

8. Strengthen your legs with the "overnight ticket line."

Just pretend you're waiting for the midnight premiere and stand while you do everything. In addition to general fitness, this is a very practical move for nerds — you'll be super prepared for summer movie season while your friends complain about their aching calves.
