IMDb's Mobile App Now Supports Movie Ticket Purchases

Now you can buy movie tickets from directly within IMDb's mobile app.

Starting Monday, users in the United States can purchase movie tickets from Fandango by selecting the theater and time of choice from within the IMDb app.

Monday's update is not restricted to theater purchases, also bringing support for DVD and Blu-ray discs purchases of your favorite movies and television shows.

Now when viewing a film within IMDb's app you can select "Search via Amazon Mobile" to see if the movie is available, and make a purchase directly on your phone. DVD and Blu-ray purchases require you to also have the Amazon mobile app installed on your handset.

What's more, the update brings more bios for celebrities into the app, as well as bug fixes to the existing service.

IMDb's updated app is available now from the App Store and Google Play.

   IFTTT (If This Then That) came to iPhone this week. The automation app lets you tie together two different apps or services by simply specifying the "This" and "That" of the equation. For instance, you might have all the photos you take with your iPhone automatically upload to Flickr, or have the app send a "Hello!" message to a new friend when you add his or her contact information to the address book on your phone.

   The free service works with a number of different apps and services ranging from Dropbox to Craigslist, and can be customized to meet your own personal needs.

   eBay Exact

   eBay debuted a new app called eBay Exact this week that lets customers customize jewelry and accessories, and have them 3D printed and sent to them.

   All items are made using either plastic or metal, and are mailed within a week or two of their creation.

   Glasses.com

   Glasses.com launched an iPad app this week that uses augmented reality to let you virtually try on the glasses it sells.

   Using a proprietary "3Dfit technology," the app gives you an in-store experience of sorts with your iPad, and get a 180-degree view of what glasses will look like on your face, a 3D facial view, and the ability to compare different looks side by side. Looks can also be shared with friends and family from within the app so you can get a second opinion.

   Facebook Home

   Facebook updated Facebook Home this week, bringing with it one of the most requested features from early adopters: folders. Now you can group together apps on your phone in different folders while still using Facebook's custom Android launcher.

   Folders were one of several prominent requests by those who downloaded the app launcher. Others include dock support, which Facebook added last month, and support for widgets, a feature Facebook plans to add in a future update to the app.

   Rebtel

   Rebtel released a new version of its VoIP calling app this week. Used by over 23 million people, version 3.0 app brings a new favorites section with photos of your most important contacts, the ability to set reminders for important calls you need to make, and an easier way to check your account balance using the service.

   Twitter

   Twitter enhanced its mobile apps this week, adding sync functionality for direct messages on the service. Now when you read a direct message on your phone, that message will also show as read on the web, TweetDeck, and other Twitter clients. Other improvements to the app include better search results with account preview, and support for six new languages: Danish, Filipino, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish and Thai.
