‘Boy Meets World’ Star Speaks Out on Tumblr About New Sequel

Cory-Topanga

A sequel series to the 1990s hit show Boy Meets World is in the works — and, as of Monday, both Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel (who played Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence in the show, respectively) announced they'll be reprising their old roles for the new show's pilot.

Fishel posted about the news via her Tumblr page:

I do not know how many BMW cast members will be returning … or how often they may appear. But because I have known Michael Jacobs, Ben Savage, Rider Strong, Will Friedle, and Bill Daniels for 19 years, I know we share many of the same feelings regarding the 7 wonderful years we spent making BMW … I promise with the entirety of my heart that we will make [this new show] with the same honesty, innocence, and intelligence that you learned to expect from BMW.

The new show, Girl Meets World, will focus on Cory and Topanga's 13-year-old daughter, Riley. Rumors say it will also have Cory working as a high school history teacher at his old school (ahem, new Mr. Feeny.)

Fishel stressed in her post that while she's excited to see how the new show fares, she doesn't want people to expect GMW to be a replica of BMW.

GMW is a new show. It isn't BMW brought back to life but in current day. It will have familiar faces, familiar themes, and familiar messages. It will also have new faces, new themes, and new messages … For those of you who knew and loved BMW, please allow this show to evolve as well. Stick with us. Give us a chance.

Savage shared the news on Twitter, too:

Word spread quickly among fans as well:

As of now, only the pilot episode is scheduled. Casting is still in the works, including for the role of Riley.

What do you think? Is this a good move for the BMW era? Tell us your thoughts below.
