Qualcomm’s First CES Keynote Is Star-Studded

Qualcomm may have taken Microsoft's place as keynote speaker at this year's International CES, but that didn't keep CEO Steve Ballmer from taking the stage.

Ballmer was invited on the stage early in Qualcomm's presentation in order to show off some existing Windows 8 and Windows Phone devices. Such as the Samsung Ativ tablet, Nokia Lumia 920, and HTC 8X.

Also taking the stage at Monday's event was Producer, Writer, and Director Guillermo Del Toro, Nascar Sprint Cup Champion Brad Keselowski, and everyone's favorite 8-foot yellow bird, Big Bird.

Big Bird showed off a new app called Big Bird's Words, which helps children learn to read by having them search for words wherever they are. For instance, a child might be asked to search for the word "milk," and have to find that word in their environment, perhaps on a jug of milk.

Alice Eve from the upcoming Star Trek film Into Darkness, was also there briefly showing off a new app for the movie, an Ingress-esque game that sends you on real-life missions where you interact with your environment.

Maroon 5 —although they were Maroon 3 for the evening — closed the keynote with a few songs.
