This Heart Rate Monitor Sends Stats to Your iPhone

There are four "i"s in this latest fitness gadget's brand name. It might be hard to remember the oddly spelled Viiiiva by its name, but the heart rate monitor's features are definitely memorable.

Unveiled at CES International 2013, this monitor lets ANT+ devices communicate with an iPhone or iPod touch in real-time without using an adapter to sync information. This means that you can jog, bike, kickbox (or whatever your workout) while monitoring stats like heart rate or calories burned on your iPhone.

Company 4iiii, which created the Viiiiva, used its Liiiink technology to create an ANT+ to Bluetooth Smart bridge. Using Viiiiva, athletes everywhere can see their fitness results on their smartphone, bike computer or sport watch.

"Liiiink enables Viiiiva to channel output from ANT+ sensors including foot pods, bike speed/cadence sensors, and power meters to Bluetooth Smart format to send to iPhone/iPods," the company explains.

“As a group of triathletes we need a system that connects all our devices to our iPhone/iPod providing us with on-the-go monitoring, file saving, and performance review," Alana Baxter, product manager at 4iiii Innovations, said in a press release. "It was through recognizing this need that we came up with the idea of Viiiiva and created our unique Liiiink technology."

The Viiiiva works with Garmin, TIMEX, adidas, and other displays. ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart technology send heart rate, cadence, power and speed to most popular iOS fitness apps including Endomondo, MapMyFitness, Runtastic, Runmeter, Strava, Training Peaks and Runkeeper. Viiiva runs on a coin cell battery and does not need to be charged.

The Viiiiva retails for $79.
