YouTube needs your help announcing the Artist of the Year winner at the YouTube Music Awards, a fan-voted global ceremony that will air live on Nov. 3.
Google's video service launched PutMeInTheYTMAS.com, where people can upload a video of themselves saying just one word in this phrase:
"The nominees for 2013 Artist of the Year are: Eminem, Epic Rap Battles of History, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Nicki Minaj, One Direction, Psy, Rihanna and Taylor Swift. And the winner at the first ever YouTube Music Awards is ... "
The site lets users click on a word, upload a YouTube link or video file, and ultimately earn a chance to be featured in the YouTube Music Awards live stream. YouTube will take the best video for each word, and combine them to complete the phrase.
Jason Schwartzman, co-host of the awards show, explains the crowdsourced contest in the following video, which YouTube exclusively shared with Mashable on Wednesday:
YouTube chose the nominees in the Artist of the Year category and five other categories based on their video views, Likes, comments and channel subscriptions since September 2012. Fittingly, YouTube created a nomination video for each nominee, and fans must share one on Facebook, Google+ or Twitter in order to cast a vote.
Directed by Spike Jonze, the live event at New York City's Pier 36 on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET will include performances from Lady Gaga, Eminem, Arcade FIre, Avicii, M.I.A., Earl Sweatshirt, Tyler the Creator and Walk Off the Earth.
The deadline for the one-word videos is Nov. 2.
