Audiences still haven't stopped buzzing about last week's Game of Thrones, which inspired Vine posts, comedy sketches and Twitter trends. The finale will air on Sunday, and fans are eagerly speculating about what the episode will hold.

In honor of three seasons of plot twists, unexpected beheadings and epic slaps, we rounded up the top 20 Game of Thrones moments so far. Count down with us as we look back at everything that led up to season three's conclusion.

Warning: spoilers and some NSFW content ahead.

This moment is what GIFs were invented for. Tyrion smacked his bratty (and, we learn later, psychotic) nephew early on in season one.

18. Beric Dondarrion Comes Back to Life

In season three, we meet the Brotherhood Without Banners, whose leader Beric Dondarrion is able to come back from the dead.

17. Sansa Stark Marries Tyrion

Poor Sansa and Tyrion. A marriage that neither of them wanted was sprung on them out of the blue. Maybe they can bond over their hatred of Joffrey?

16. Theon Greyjoy Takes Over Winterfell

In season two, Theon returned to Winterfell to seize it from the Starks. Although it was later revealed that they were alive, Theon also staged the murder of his foster brothers, Bran and Rickon.

15. A Woman Joins the Kingsguard

Arya Stark was the number-one lady fighter of season one, but Brienne of Tarth proved she was just as worthy of the audience's respect when she bested Loras Tyrell, the Knight of Flowers, and earned a spot on Renly's Kingsguard.

14. Cersei Lannister slaps Joffrey

We didn't think it would happen, but Cersei finally lost patience with her son. Even your mother/aunt can't stand you, Joff!

13. Valar Morghulis

Arya befriended an assassin named Jaqen H'ghar who was especially talented at killing her enemies. Then he got even more impressive when he demonstrated the best party trick ever: face-changing.

12. Sam Tarly Kills the White Walker

The White Walkers have had their fair share of shocking moments in the show's run, but what made this moment especially surprising was that Sam — who hadn't been much of a fighter before this — was the one to take down this ice monster.

11. Wildfire lights up the Blackwater Bay

In a show that can move slowly, the Battle of the Blackwater was a nonstop thrill ride. While the episode lacked a major character death, Tyrion's mystery assailant and the pyrotechnics that stole the show make it worth mentioning.

10. Viserys Gets the "Golden Crown"

No one wanted Danerys' bully of an older brother to survive the first season, but Khal Drogo's literal — and fatal — fulfillment of his promise was an astoundingly violent way to go.

9. Dany's Breakfast of Champions

Dany proved her worth to the Dothraki, and the show proved that eating a horse heart with your bare hands looks just as disgusting as you think it does.

8. Dany Sacks Astapor

Perhaps the most epic sequence yet on Thrones, Dany freed the slaves of Astapor, and let her dragons loose on the slavers.

7. The Night's Watch Mutiny

Proving yet again that honor is no guarantee of survival, Jeor Mormont, Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, was killed by his own men in a brutal mutiny north of the Wall.

6. The Mother of Dragons

While most viewers probably saw this development coming, there's no denying that it's one of the most satisfying moments of the entire series.

5. Bran Stark's Defenestration

All the way back in the first episode, Bran witnessed incest between twin siblings Cersei and Jaime Lannister. The young boy was in the wrong place at the wrong time, so Jaime threw him out of the window. The series would go on to become even more insane, but this moment still deserves a spot in the top five most shocking moments.

4. Jaime Lannister Gives Locke a Hand

Just when Jaime was starting to redeem himself via a buddy-cop plot with Brienne, he went and got his hand chopped off in a moment no one saw coming. Jaime has had to adjust to losing the one thing he believed made him great: his ability as a swordsman.

3. Melisandre's Creepy Shadow Baby

With the exception of Dany's dragons and the occasional snow zombie, there was very little "magic" in Thrones in season one. That all changed when we met the Red Sorceress who gives birth to evil demons.

2. The Red Wedding

The pain from this stunning sequence is still too recent to talk about. Not one, but three main characters lost their lives.

1. Ned Stark's Execution

While the body count was higher at the Red Wedding, the decapitation of Ned Stark remains Game of Thrones' most shocking moment yet. This was the moment that set the tone for the genre-defying television epic that Thrones would become. And even though the show has at least one more season to top this moment, we're not sure that it can.
