"Twitter made me do it!"
That's a fame-seeking fan's excuse after rushing the field during the middle of Tuesday night's MLB All-Star Game.
Our antagonistic proganonist's tale begins with this Tuesday afternoon tweet:
1000 RT's and ill run across the field.. #ASG #CitiField
— dyl (@MasoneDylan) July 16, 2013
Sure enough, as you'll notice, the post racked up well over the required 1,000 retweets, and young @MasoneDylan stayed true to his word. He live-tweeted his approach to the field and even shared screenshots of a text-message exchange with his horrified mother before doing the deed.
More on that in just a bit — but first, here's a bit of Instagram video of Dylan's fifth-inning stunt, and a security guard's rather epic takedown right next to second base. See how that guard gets low, wraps up the legs and drives with his hips?
Now that we've seen that, here's the ramp-up narrative Dylan provided via his Twitter feed before running onto the field. First he reiterated that he is, in fact, a man of his word:
if i get 1000 RTs id really do it
— dyl (@MasoneDylan) July 16, 2013
But he probably wasn't expecting to actually get so many retweets:
@TravisQuattrini i hope i dont get to 1k lmao
— dyl (@MasoneDylan) July 17, 2013
i have 24% i need to see it before my phone dies
— dyl (@MasoneDylan) July 17, 2013
Then, uh-oh ...
Holy shit lmao
— dyl (@MasoneDylan) July 17, 2013
lmao this is gonna be terrible
— dyl (@MasoneDylan) July 17, 2013
i hate all of you

But someone tipped off Mom, who was none too pleased:
WHO SNITCHED?! pic.twitter.com/6Rqw9YxCQa

Nonetheless ...

— dyl (@MasoneDylan) July 17, 2013

Another stellar exchange with Mom:

The moment of truth approaches ...
