Stop-Motion Camera is a bare bones app that is about as easy to use as it gets.
It offers only manual shutter with no frames-per-second customization, and there's no way to save a project and come back to it, but if you're a total beginner and looking for a quick and easy stop motion solution, this app could be it.
The controls are simple -- you tap to start an animation, tap the plus button to add a frame, then tap on "save and exit" to save your creation down to your Camera Roll.
Joby's Frame X Frame is a great example of a free companion app from a manufacturer that's done very, very well.
It offers a few useful functions, but for the purposes of this article, we're only looking at its stop motion abilities.
The app offers both continuous and manual shutter options.
You can customize how many frames per second you want to capture, from 0.5 to 20, set the time interval between shots and how many shots you're looking to capture overall.
Once you're finished, hitting the "Done" button saves your animation down to your Camera Roll.
This app is recommended for ambitious beginners who want to be able to control more advanced settings.
Stop Motion Cafe is a competent app that is easy to use and boasts some great features for longer-term projects.
Using the app is simple, you just select your frames-per-second rate, hit "capture frames" and then tap the screen to add.
This app's stand-out features are the ability to save down a project and continue work on it, and an edit function that lets you remove individual frames if you make a mistake.
When you're done, hitting "Elaborate Movie" will save it to your Camera Roll.
