Hands-On With Our Favorite Apps From E3

E3 made headlines this year for its console gaming news, but a number of mobile apps created a stir after launching at the gaming conference, as well.

King brought Facebook-favorite Pet Rescue Saga to iOS and Android, Marvel's Avengers Alliance also made its way to the iPhone, and Zynga launched Solstice Arena, a new multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game to which users are bound to get addicted.

What's more, Dreamworks launched Turbo, a new racing game starring a snail from the upcoming film of the same name, while PopCap updated Simpsons Tapped Out with more characters and buildings, as well as a new waterfront to put them all in.

1. Turbo

   Sure, you've probably played a racing game with cars – but what about one with snails? In Turbo Racing League you play as Turbo, a snail with high-speed dreams. In the game, you can customize your shell for optimal racing performance, and compete on one of nine different tracks.

   Until the end of July, Turbo is also holding a contest for racers: Players with the best times are eligible to win a cash prize of up to $500,000.

   

2. Avengers Alliance

   Marvel: Avengers Alliance launched for iOS this week. The game features 40 Marvel superheroes and 180 supervillains. Players create teams to battle one of the "deadliest foes the world has ever seen."

   Avengers Alliance is packed with over 60 crime-fighting missions, which can also be played on Facebook. Over time, Disney plans to expand the game to add more levels, as well as bring the adventure to Android.

   

3. Solstice Arena

   Zynga launched Solstice Arena, a new "Speed MOBA" (multiplayer online battle arena) for the iPad and iPhone, this week.

   In the fast-paced three-on-three fighting game -- which is quite different from Zynga's other mobile games -- players must try to destroy their enemy's base; the first one to succeed wins the game.

   

4. Pet Rescue Saga

   King brought its popular Facebook game, Pet Rescue Saga , to mobile this week. In it, players must try to free pets that are trapped above multicolored blocks by bursting matching blocks to open a way to the bottom.

   If you're already a Pet Rescue Saga player on Facebook, the game will automatically sync with your mobile device.

   

5. Simpson's Tapped Out

   EA launched a new "Waterfront" update to its Simpsons: Tapped Out game this week. The update brings 30 new plots of land to the game, as well as new decorations, buildings and quests. It also introduces new characters such as the Sea Captain and Handsome Pete.
