Name: TheSuitest
One-Liner Pitch: TheSuitest gives you all the details you need to know about hotel rooms to ensure you book the right room.
Why It's Taking Off: The travel search engine provides specific data analysis about hotel rooms, the amenities they offer and any hidden fees, so you can determine whether you're really getting a good deal.
While working in the investment banking industry, Jeremy Murphy always had an urge to travel, but he never had the money to do so or the time it often takes to research and compare hotel rooms.
Murphy's background in finance led him to realize that if he built a statistics engine and collected information on hotel prices and amenities, it could cut down the time and research it takes to find the best hotel room. So in early 2012, Murphy and his team started developing a tool to do just that: TheSuitest.
TheSuitest is a travel search engine that crunches data about hotel rooms so that you know exactly what you are getting for your money before you even arrive to the hotel, and how much you should be paying for a room based on the amenities it has to offer.
How much should you pay for a 500-square-foot room in Los Angeles, California? How does your room compare to other rooms in the same city that are the same size with similar amenities? These are just some of the questions that TheSuitest helps you answer to make sure you're getting the most for your money.
"We created TheSuitest to be the first hotel platform that does all the hard work for you when you are looking for an upscale place to stay," Jeremy Murphy, CEO of TheSuitest, told Mashable in an interview.
Once you choose your destination city and travel dates, the platform's availability graph shows you how many room choices are available for those dates, and what the average price is for one night. TheSuitest lists the major amenities that each hotel room has to offer, such as a fireplace, pool, TV size, number of bedrooms, flooring type, stone bathroom, etc. You can click on any amenity to find out how many rooms in the area of your destination also have that feature, or you can narrow down your search based on the amenities that are important to you.
"If you're planning to go to Miami and want to stay in a hotel with a view of the water, you would normally have to look at every single room and every single piece of data to find that water view room," says Murphy. "But with TheSuitest, you can see prices for just the water view rooms that's something that no other site has."
TheSuitest rates each room with a "Suite Score" out of 10 points. The platform also provides a fair value price, and a "Deal Grade" rating that lets you know how the total price compares to the fair value during your travel dates.
Even if you do land a great deal on a room, sometimes you get to your hotel only to find out about a number of hidden fees. That's why TheSuitest lets you uncover these fees before you arrive. During a hotel search, users can choose to uncover parking, Wi-Fi, and resort fees, as well as taxes and surcharges.
The startup is currently in public beta and has raised $500,000 in funding. For each hotel booking, the TheSuitest earns 5 - 12% on commission.
