Vancouver’s Growlab Accelerator Graduates Its Spring 2012 Cohort

Vancouver's up-and-coming Growlab accelerator is hosting its demo day for its spring 2012 cohort today. The program was founded in 2011 and focuses on consumer internet, social gaming, mobile and cloud services. Growlab currently runs two four-month programs per year and funds about five companies per class with $25,000 per session. Companies that are accepted into the program also have a chance of getting $150,000 in follow-up funding from Growlab and BDC Venture Capital, one of Canada's larger VC firms.

Without further ado, here are the six companies from Growlab's 2012 cohort that presented at demo day today, as well as a number of teams from Growlabs pre-accelerator Farm Team:

Wantering : Wantering is a fashion recommendation engine. According to Wantering, shoppers are currently overwhelmed by the amount of stores and choices they find online. The service uses Facebook Connect and a short survey to seed its recommendation engine and then learns as shoppers continue to use the service. The service also sends out a daily email with recommendations to its users. The company currently has 30,000 users and has raised about $450,000 so far.

Food.ee: A new product from Invoke Media, the maker of HootSuite, Food.ee simplifies group ordering of delivery food for offices. The company has raised over $800,000 in seed funding and currently has about 50 customers in Vancouver. The company offers food ordering tools for individuals and admins who order for a whole office.

Skyscrpr: Skyscrpr is a revenue management and optimization platform. Independent publishers can use the service to monetize their sites through various sources like display ads, sponsored content and social. (Our full review)

BlueBat: BlueBat is the developer of the BlueBox engine, an end-to-end software development environment for the creation of casino-style games on Facebook and mobile (one of the fastest growing online gaming genres). The company aims to bridge the gap between social gaming and online casino games.

Cinecoup: Cinecoup is blending the studio and agency model with a social web platform to disrupt the way $1M-5M independent feature films are developed, financed and distributed. The company sees itself as a mashup of Y Combinator and American Idol. This fall, the company will start looking for the first film to finance and Cineplex, Canada's largest theater chain, has already committed to showing this film in two-thirds of its theaters.

Mover.io: Mover uncomplicates the migration of data into and around cloud storage platforms. The company focuses on the enterprise market and targets IT managers, cloud storage providers, and your average consumer. The company has already moved 40 million files for its beta customers, including Box.net and Symantec.cloud.

Next36 company: Kira- Kira is a collaborative platform that accelerates the interview process using video — leaving behind stacks of impersonal resumes and applications.

Startup Weekend Winners: RouteCaptain- Route Captain is a route optimization app for the courier industry.
