Watch the Michelle Obama Speech That Destroyed Twitter [VIDEO]
Michelle Obama's Tuesday night speech about her husband and the Obama family at the Democratic National Convention drove 28,003 tweets-per-minute at its peak, nearly double the 14,289 mark reached by Mitt Romney's acceptance speech at the Republican convention last week.
Obama's speech, intended to illustrate the differences between her husband and his Republican challenger, played well on Twitter. It had plenty of short, snackable lines easily packed into 140 characters or less.
This tweet, from the Obama campaign, saw more than 2,000 retweets:
Michelle Obama on POTUS: "He wants every young person to fulfill their promise and be able to attend college without a mountain of debt."
Obama 2012 (@Obama2012) September 5, 2012
And this was destined to be the most well-remembered and oft-cited line of the night:
"Being president doesn't change who you are. It reveals who you are." @michelleobama #dnc2012

Millions of people watching or listening to Obama's speech chimed in before, during and after on Twitter, voicing varied viewpoints:

I hope all those tweeters are voters and won't be deterred by the dirty tactics designed to prevent people from voting in swing states.

Actually that horse voted very well. He stood for the people who like horses, which like freedom, who like less taxes, which helped businesses, who then created jobs and saved America. Caligula's horse voted for Romney and so will I along with the majority of Americans.

and the fact that so many people on twitter are excited by this tells you how vapid and stupid most of the people who use twitter are. and yes, I know that I'm talking about myself since I use twitter, but at least I am smart enough not to buy the bullshit of the two party syste,

The LIES! holy hell I hope lightening doesn't stike that woman down! I also hope that a majority of women and men in this country don't believe the crap she's spewing. Shame on Mashable for contributing to the liberal media propaganda.

Yeah, because I'm sure a majority of conservatives actually have a Twitter account to tweet about the RNC. Not.

Is it bad that I don't know who she is? What specifically makes her the Queen of Twitter?

Right and of course you listed up those lies, because we shouldn't just believe you because you said it, correct? Sigh.

She spoke mainly about her love for her husband and how he loves his children and how they struggled together. What exactly did she "lie" about tonight? And I'm sure you were REALLY upset by the verified lies told by Paul Ryan, who is ACTUALLY RUNNING FOR OFFICE. Please don't confuse with not believing IN someone as being tantamount to lying.
Lies can be verified. So please verify some of Michelle Obama's? No, really show me where she lie.

Interesting. Do you have a list of groups against whom it is okay to be a bigot? I'd like to keep my list current.

She is one strong lady, stood behind her husband firmly. Whatever she has spoken was very touching and must have inspired so many. More and more people will back Mr. Obama after this.
