'Breaking Bad' Vs. 'Homeland': Battle of the Sauls

Sunday's Breaking Bad finale means we must wave goodbye to everyone's favorite attorney Saul Goodman (or just until his spinoff premieres).

Luckily, season three of Homeland also premieres Sunday, which means everyone's favorite CIA Division Chief Saul Berenson can step gracefully into the Saul-shaped hole in our hearts caused by Goodman's departure.

But while the names are the same, the men most definitely are not. Can Berenson live up to our Saul needs? And which really is the better Saul?

   In the real world, a CIA employee hunting terrorists far outweighs criminal defense lawyer on the cool scale. But in TV land, Goodman's job is just as stressful, action-packed and dramatic as Berenson's.

   Point to both Sauls.

   "Better Call Saul" is short, memorable and, we gotta admit, is working for him.

   OK, fine. This isn't Patinkin from Homeland, it's from The Princess Bride. But, damn, it was one hell of a good catchphrase.

   Point to Saul Goodman (by a technicality).

   Saul Goodman knows how to work his tresses.

   But nothing in the world can top Berenson's uber-manly, salt and pepper beard.

   Point to Saul Berenson.

   Both Sauls are constantly dealing with borderline insane people with questionable morals and a pension for breaking the law.

   Point to both Sauls.

    While Berenson seems like the better husband material, Goodman wins for his player status.

    Goodman's quite the wisecracker.

    Berenson's more of a serious guy -- he won't even crack a smile at Carrie's cry chin.

Looks like Saul Goodman takes home the prize for the better Saul. But tonight's Breaking Bad finale and Homeland's season opener could always shift the scores.

Or, perhaps, the better Saul is all just a personal preference — like Coke versus Pepsi.
