Fresh Content, Fresh Content, Fresh Content

Gee, what do you think this post is going to be about?

Your content is what is going to truly make you a Trusted Expert – it is the single most important thing you can do.

If you've been following all the advice I've already given in the Trusted Expert series, you've already come up with something of value to provide your users with – that thing that helps cement you as a Trusted Expert in their minds, whether it be a tool, ebook, audio or video file or report, and that's great, but you can't stop there.

As I mentioned in the last trusted Expert post about site maintenance, it's important to your reputation as a Trusted Expert that you continually update your site.  Make sure that you add in new testimonials when you get them – you can keep the best ones from the past up, but also make sure that there are also new ones, so that people will know that you're still doing a great job of helping your customers now, not just 3 or 4 years ago.

Also, be sure you keep up on what's happening in your niche, and where applicable, comment on it.  It will add to your Trusted Expert status if you can prove to your audience that you not only participate in the niche, but you're also up on what's the latest happening.  Put your ideas and opinions out there enough, and soon people will start to look to you for their news and information about your topic – the very definition of a Trusted Expert.  And if they go to you for information, where are they going to go when they need to buy something – that's right – to you.

Always respond to customer inquiries, and if you think the information is useful enough, get the original person's permission and add it to your site.  Not only are you sharing valuable information with your audience, you're also showing them that you care enough to respond to the people who contact you, making other people more likely to contact you (and possibly buy from you) in the future.

Most importantly, don't rest on your laurels.  You may have written the best ebook or come up with the best tool in the world to brand yourself as a Trusted Expert.  And you may think that's enough.  The problem is, no matter how good the original was, everything on the internet has an expiry date on it.  Eventually, you'll need to either update what you have or come up with something new entirely.   By being proactive about this, you'll just further reinforce the idea that you're an expert in your niche.

Your content is the way you communicate with your users.  Everything you say, and how and when you say it contribute to the overall effect of you being seen as an expert.  The cornerstone of being a Trusted Expert is to provide users with useful information – not to make a sale.  The sale is the side affect of them trusting you because of your useful content.  So make sure that you put at least as much effort, if not more, into the quality of your content as you do with your marketing tactics and you'll be fine.

  1. Content will always be king, because that turns visitors into fans who enjoy your articles.

  2. [...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by AllThingsM and Jason Katzenback, mariayanchevsky. mariayanchevsky said: Fresh Content, Fresh Content, Fresh Content: Gee, what do you think this post is going to be about? Yo… http://bit.ly/aNFYna bit.ly/N05Cu [...]

  3. Thats true always try to churn out new content each day.

  4. I couldn't agree more with your phrase: "The cornerstone of being a Trusted Expert is to provide users with useful information – not to make a sale" Man that I wish all internet marketers lived this. Enough with crap content.

I think we should realize that we are actually in the market to help people right?

Whether it's helping them get their ex back or buying a useful product to help build a chicken coop, we should be in the market to actually help people, not just make money. Great post and web2mayhem rocks I have to say. ;)

  5. I agree with you Jason. Fresh content, not just content, is king! People love new content. We should also create an original one, not from someone's work. Internet is full of crap content, so we should really be outstanding when it comes to creating content that will be helpful and useful to our subscribers.

    Thanks for sharing this.

    Gary

  6. content that point for reader because when we have content that them need we will get more traffic.

  7. Hi Jason,

I agree to many people go for the "sale" when they should first build up trust. If people have trust in you and what you do online the sales will come in with less effort.

I'll admit I started off wrong and was one who shot for the sale, but over the past few years I've changed my style and now go for the trust first and sale second.

    Chris.

  8. Fresh content is so much more than just a "strategy" to dazzle potential customers and "trick" them into doing business with you. Ultimately, you're educating your visitors to be better equipped to solve the problems that brought them to you.

You educate them about their options and their needs through the filter of your perspective on the problem. The more you educate them, the more they see their problems and the solutions for them through your perspective. And the more they see how to solve their problems through your perspective, the more likely they are to turn to you for further help.

  9. Your message is so important. Too many people seem to think content can be scraped or rehashed from others' sites instead.

We should write new content as often as we can. Content has to be fresh. It has to provide value to our readers. It has to help them believe in us. When our content does all these things, we will be kings.

  10. How many times have you been looking for information on the internet and come to a site that is just a crap load of nothing.

You feel that you wasted your time and you also feel a little bit ticked at the person who was just in it for the quick buck and had no regard for your time or expectations.

Even at the memory foam mattress store site, I try to give people all the information they need to make an informed decision about the mattress they will buy, whether it's from me or someone else.

    It's just plain good manners.

  11. I am always providing market reports on my blog. Always trying to educate my readers bout my market. Now if I could only get my blog and website together.

  12. Thanks for that, sometimes we can get caught up in other areas of our business when the most important aspect is really providing value for our readers. Just as you have done here.
    Cheers
    Steve

  13. Content is king, but I also make sure to try and keep my posts relevant to each other. Does the content need to be all about the same thing? Of course not, but I find it helps with the search engines if everything is at least relevant because then they will know exactly what a website is about. If content topics are all over the place, it can cause a little search engine confusion.

  14. I like the Trusted Expert concept, people always expect great content from experts.

  15. Definitively good advice. Sometimes we neglect our sites and blogs for whatever reason but it is a rewarding to make some time in them.

  16. LOL! Fresh Content? I prefer Fresh Milk instead. Seriously, most of the content in the web right now are just spin offs of already existing content. :(

  17. Fresh content, not just content, is king! We always need to keep updating our sites

  18. use always fresh content and content should be relevant to site, in other way content is king.

  19. Hey John, I TOTALLY agree with you. I am relaunching my blog with brand new FRESH Content. Thanks for this post :)

  20. yes, content is critical – both quality and quantity, unless one plans to spend on paid sources of traffic…
plus prospects engagement and leads nurturing is the name of the game…

  21. Great, comprehensive post. Thank you, John…
Also, content can serve different purposes: some is for readers, some can be for search engines. None of them are good or evil, they just have different destinies… :-) both can successfully coexist…

  22. "everything has an expiry date on it…" How true and wonderful. This is what gives newbies a chance to overthrow complacent leaders who've gone stale.

Unfortunately, some will take your advice as a directive to keep putting out crap. Fresh content, fresh content, fresh content should get better and better and better.

  23. Fresh and interesting content will keep you in the search engines and keep your readers coming back. It helps you to make a living if you are an internet marketer. A search engine expert told me that one should update their blogs at least twice a week for the Goog robot. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. Just depends on how much time there is in a day for every website/blog.

  24. Interesting conversation here the same as the topic. That's what brought me here.

  25. can you please tell which web 2.0 tools we can use to create fresh content?

  26. Very useful! Many thanks

    Regards
    Mike

  27. Hi Jason.

People forget about quality, there is so much rehashed s**t on the internet these days. Glad there is none here.Good bloggers are hard to find.

    Thanks

    Pete

  28. Jason,

I agree with you. Nothing can beat fresh content, the more you add the more googlebot will eat :)
We have used it on several sites and blogs and seen astonishing results.

  29. As well as keeping your content fresh I would advise that it should be relevant, inspiring, enthusiastic and well-researched. Posting any old drivel just to keep your post quota up will help no one.

  30. Content is the most impotent part of the social marketing.nice content then site ranking grow up fast.so thanks for sharing this information.

  31. Excellent post.. i am going for keep all your points in the mind…

  32. I understand that creating interesting and relevant content is important, but it seems that giving out too much information on a subject just feeds people to expect all of your expertise on a subject to be free, like Martial Arts Austin.
Some people can write a lot of words and say very little. Then you can be correct and say a lot in a few words.
What is the best balance between the two, if any?

  33. Content is king as they say. Great post and very appropriate.

  34. Content will always remain the king of blogging. If accompanied by SEO, your blog will just become a powerful weapon to gather huge traffic. More traffic, more possible income.

  35. really good tips! but its always hard to write new original content intersting to wide audience..years of experience combined with writing skills do for it i think

  36. I can't agree with what has been said here more. While most of my professional life has been offline, the same principles apply. Those in business who just care about the sale, simply fail. Those who provide something more, be it trust, customer service or information get the repeat business time and time again. Putting in a bit of time to providing quality, rather than pushing for quantity, is a sure strategy for long-term success.

  37. Correct, blogs should be updated at least every other day, to get a continues traffic from your fans.

  38. Contents are the what the visitors are looking for. It's what we offer to them. It's what makes a website or a blog useful. It is the lifeblood of our blog. Without fresh contents, we are frozen.

  39. Your content should be simple and written in a way you communicate with the users. Making use of quality content will surely contribute to the overall effect of you being seen as an expert.

  40. Fresh and interesting content will keep you in the search engines and keep your readers coming back.I have the same idea.

  41. Content IS king, I have been told this very thing over and over again no matter where it is I go. So, why is it that most people still post sales pitches or crap?

I just found your blog, but must say that I like your style and the info you post. Great job, keep it up!

  42. The way I see it: Unique content builds authority. (With Google as well as with your reader base.) Whereas Google may know if you are republishing content, your readers may not. But I don't suppose they'd be happy if they knew you were a distributor, rather than an author.

Also, what you said about responding to customers; very good advice. People love interaction and actually speaking to someone puts a personality to the business that they are viewing. >>This is why bad customer service leads to customers never returning. (The same reason I left my former web host with 10 months still paid up!)

  43. I am starting from bad english person and try to give visitors the fresh content in english. It's so hard but I already success with some ways. I do agree that the fresh content can help you get success very fast, with a blog.

  44. As a new site owner and blogger this is something that's soon to be of huge concern.

I visit lots of blogs and it's not hard to see who has it going on and doesn't.

Lots to learn but having a great time doing it.

    Thanks for the post!

    Lesley

  45. The title says it all and fresh content will help refresh our readers' mind too.

P/S: I love this statement "no matter how good the original was, everything on the internet has an expiry date on it". It is true indeed!

  46. Content and Keyword play a big roles for ranking.
Content 50% unique is great for blog.

  47. Wow great post, I think you are right…It is important not only to have a great and fresh content but also interact and have good relation with our readers and listen and fulfill their demands

  48. Hello Jason,

That is a good reminder to have fresh content. It is so easy to get busy, posting comments, creating squeeze pages, adswapping, or other things, that it is easy to forget how long it has been since fresh content was posted on the blog.

    Thank you for emphasizing this.

    Cheryl

  49. One should always strive for using quality content which reflects the services or products you offer to the masses. Try and make it a bit simple and user-friendly.

  50. Yup,the content plays an important role. But what do you mean the trusted expert? In marketing or something else?I can't figure it out sorry..

  51. resh content, not just content, is king! People love new content. We should also create an original one, not from someone's work. Internet is full of crap content, so we should really be outstanding when it comes to creating content that will be helpful and useful to our subscribers.

  52. Yes every blog should have definite fresh content everyday for the audience to be more interested,.but not just for the sake of having a content,.there are such guidelines to be follow like it should be some kind of a friendly thing and should be interesting.

    thanks,
    veronica

  53. Well said! "You Get What You Give"

  54. original content will be lay to waste if you're not promoting your site. so I think promotion and good content is a foundation of a successful website :D

  55. hi
fresh content increase the number of visitor, seo point of view fresh content increase the crawl rate.

  56. What's the term? "Content is king?". Not only does content help you with you becoming an expert in your niche, content helps drive your site's up Google's rankings.
I believe Google likes content and lots of it. Content properly written with the correct use and placement of keywords is one of the reasons Google might bump up the Page Rank of your sites. With the effect of backlinks or course.
Also, I've posted random contents to Web 2.0 sites just to help get backlinks indexed. Google likes a lot of the content, hence frequent visits to the Web 2.0 sites. Get the backlinks I place on the Web 2.0 sites indexed and that helps rank your sites better too.

  57. It is rightly said that "Content is the King". One should always strive to write interactive and simple content.

  58. What I personally feel that you are really an expert in this field. Keep up the good work. I must thank the person who gave me the url of your site. Thanks for sharing.

  59. You must provide for the user first! It's a priority!

  60. Thank you for the advice. But how do you check if your content is really fresh? Other people might had been posting about it the same day as you. Do you need to change the article after you post it?

  61. Who is the judge of what is fresh? Ask friends and family members to read your posts and trust them to be honest with you.

Or ask people in your neighborhood, school, church or job who fit the targeted demo to review your content.

If the overall reaction is positive, keep up the good work.

If it's negative, go back to work.

To get honest answers, dont tell them you wrote it. Say you found it on the Internet.

    Then wait.

  62. Fresh content makes you a fresh individual with fresh mind and bright ideas. Fresh content is like having Lady Gaga in your article. LOLest. =) Nice post. Keep it up.

  63. WOW – powerful concept that so many people forget about. I think what resonates with me most is that your sales come with your relationship with your readers, not the other way around. You need to build trust through good content. Thanks for the reminder.
