   We each have that friend who refuses to join Facebook and only communicates by email. In other words, he basically doesn't exist. Email use is way down among teens, and though Twitter is partially to blame, Facebook's ubiquity is a major factor.

2. 2. Instant Messaging

   IM is dead and reincarnated in the form of Twitter, Facebook Chat and texting.

   Companies, especially startups, can use Facebook to interact with followers and react to customer demands.

   Yearbook sales have been declining in recent years, due either to social media, the recession or both. They're still a popular keepsake item for high school students, but how sustainable is that?

   Chances are you've heard this lately: "Did you get the invite?" Party invitations travel much faster than word of mouth now -- they move at the speed of Facebook.

    Let's be honest -- would you rather travel back home to chat about your old friend's boring life, or keep your Snuggie on and check a status every once in a while?

"Like" it or not, Facebook has changed the way we live. The monolithic social site has consolidated numerous forms of communication under one big, blue roof, simultaneously rendering some traditional means of interaction obsolete. Even those that adapted have been irrevocably altered by Facebook's rise.
