Hands-on With The Week’s Top Apps

It was a big week for apps.

Twitter released Vine, a new way for creating and sharing video content, and Temple Run 2, the app that garnered an astounding 20 million downloads in its first 4 weeks in the iOS App Store finally made its way to Android.

We saw a few new apps for reading your news, and a new app for sharing your opinion about literally everything.

1. Vine

   Twitter launched Vine this week. Currently iOS only, the app lets you create GIF-like 6-second looping video clips and then share your finished creations with friends on Vine or Twitter or Facebook.

   

2. Swipp

   Every wonder what the world thinks about a topic? That's the idea behind Swipp, a new app and service that allows users to rate literally anything on a scale on -5 to +5 and then share that rating – along with comments photos and more – with the world. You can Swipp using the mobile app, however, the results of a Swipp can be shared an assortment of different ways.

   

3. Deer Reader

   Deer Reader is a new Google Reader client for Android that turns reading your news feeds into a much more enjoyable experience. The app has four different themes, customized widgets in the pro version, and is optimized for use with Android tablets.

   

4. Mailbox

   Mailbox launched for iOS this week. Designed to be mobile first, the app makes organizing and reading email while you're on the go a snap, and makes it easy to keep your inbox uncluttered without deleting incoming messages.

   

5. TextCenter

   If you're using your iPhone or iPad to take notes in class or a meeting, then Apple's built-in Notes app can sometimes be a bit lacking. TextCenter is essentially a plain text editor for your iOS device. The app offers the ability to import and export documents from and to other apps on your device, duplicate documents so you're working on a copy, and print using AirPrint.

   You can also tweet selections of your text directly from the editor, provided you have a Twitter account set up on your device.

   

6. Temple Run 2

   Temple Run 2 made its way to Android this week. The exceptionally popular game was downloaded for iOS a whopping 20 million times during its first 4 days in the App Store.

   

7. Futureful

   Futureful lets you surf the web based on tags. The app lets you choose tags for content that might potentially be interesting to you, and then provides an article that's relevant to the tags you've selected. You can fave content as you read, and add tags to pages to improve the experience for everyone using the service.
