Whether it's platonic, intimate or purely a business relationship, staying in sync with another person can get fragmented with technology: Evernote for trading lists or ideas, WhatsApp for instant messaging, Dropbox for swapping photos and email for scheduling meetings or dates. A Canadian company hopes to consolidate all that communication with an important person in your life through its own private networking app.
Toronto-based 2 For Life Media released its "2life" app for iOS in July, touting it as "a private, secure network that lets you chat, share, collaborate and coordinate with your partner, all in one place." The app includes ability for private chat, sharing calendar events, sharing web links, managing lists and collecting photos all between two people.

For instance, when a couple wanted to find a mutually-free night to plan a date, they can sync their calendars to the app and create shared events. To plan where to go, the app's "date night" feature is powered by Yelp's local listings to help pinpoint the perfect spot. Couples can share links to events and view them within the app's internal web browser. They can chat about all of this in the built-in instant messaging chat space. So, while these smartphone functions can work within individual apps, 2life streamlines your relationship's logistics in one place.
This app might sound similar to other apps for couples we've seen in the iOS and Android ecosystems that also organize communication between two people: Couple (formerly called "Pair"), Avocado and Between are examples. But 2life app founder Diane Hall says 2life is broader than just for use in intimate relationships.
Hall told Mashable 2life could be used for different life stages between two people: a couple planning a wedding, new parents staying organized or when planning for buying a new home or remodeling. "Your most important relationship is defined by you," Hall, who uses the app with her husband, said.
She suggests even friends or brothers and sisters could use 2life: Siblings who are looking after an aging parent could collaborate, for example.
"When you've gone through a change in your life, you've got activities over and above your normal behavior," Hall said. "So we want to help make that an exciting time where you're communicating well with your partner, not when: 'geez, we have so much going on that we're losing touch with each other.'"
The app also features original lifestyle content an homage to the company's gender-netural lifestyle magazine for couples. Additionally, the app also has a social good component: the "Power of 2" section features partnerships with philanthropic causes and profiles of couples making a difference.
The 2life iOS app, which launched worldwide in mid-July in 14 different languages, has 70,000 downloads so far, Hall said. The basic app is free, but limits users to three lists, 20 uploaded photos and two journal entries. The company's 2life Premium option ($9.99 annually for a joint account) unlocks unlimited lists, photos and journal entries. While 2life only works for iOS right now, Hall said they will expand to other platforms desktop, Android as they grow.
