9 Tired Movie Clichés That Need to Stop

When you watch a movie for the first time, an overwhelming feeling of deja vu doesn't mean you have magical powers — it probably means the film is full of tired cliches you've seen in hundreds of movies before.

At this point, Hollywood studios seem so set in their ways. It might be time to bring in YouTube's fab BFF, Sassy Gay Friend, who's managed to get even the most stubborn people to look at their choices.

If he can talk some sense into the giving tree, he can achieve anything.

   Harry Potter and Peter Parker are the worst offenders, but super villains aren't the only thing that selfless soon-to-be exes want to deflect from their lovers.

   There are also the characters trying to save their lovers from the danger of their own emotions. Either way, it's a terrible decision, and always ends badly.

   In theory, having your rain-drenched clothes plastered to your body should increase the sexual tension of the moment.

   In reality, you're just going to get gross and wet.

   Was a family horribly murdered in the house? Don't go in.

   Was the building ever used as any kind of asylum? Don't go in.

   If that were the case, why isn't everyone on Craigslist missed connections madly, happily in love with their beloved?

   For such important successful women, these ladies have not mastered time management, because they always have too many calls to return and their brief cases are always exploding by sewer grates.

   Luckily the cure for an overworked woman isn't a yoga class and a decent day planner, it's love.

   7. The promiscuous friend who only sleeps around to hide from his feelings.

   Because in the world of films, an active sex life means: You've been hurt, but deep down, you want to be in a long term committed relationship.

   8. The precocious child who explains the meaning of life to all the adults around him.

   Honestly, what would grown ups in movies do without know-it-all kids to show them the way? Prime examples include the little sister in 500 Days of Summer, who understands relationships more than her full-grown brother and the eerily wise, super tiny Freddie Highmore in Finding Neverland.

   Give it up, because this cliché will never top Damien.
